Description/Job Summary

1st Shift 7am-7pm.
The purpose of a Refrigeration Operator is to safely operate the ammonia refrigeration system and its related equipment by adhering to Standard Operation Procedures and Perdue Safety Procedures and to perform preventative maintenance inspections.


  • Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be able to operate all refrigeration systems in the plant.
  • Must be able to do all start-ups, shut-downs, and defrost procedures on all plant refrigeration systems.
  • Must be able to control the functions of all refrigeration systems in the plant: Area Temperature, Water Temperature, and Ice Production.
  • Must be able to perform all operational procedures: Rounds, Oil Draining, Oil Adding, and Posting all Logs.
  • Must be able to do all emergency shut-downs and start-ups, reset and restart failed equipment and put all systems back on line.
  • Must be trained on all refrigeration SOP’s.
  • Must have a clear understanding of the relationship between pressure and temperature in a refrigeration system.
  • Must understand heat transfer in a refrigeration system.
  • Must be able to do all PM procedures in refrigeration.
  • Must be qualified to do auger maintenance.
  • Perform tasks assigned by management.
  • Working knowledge of Departmental PC’s.
  • Perform maintenance activities such as Bearing and Belt Replacement, Coupling Alignment, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Strong work history, worked for one employer for at least 1 year in the past three years.
  • Willing and able to work in wet and extreme hot and cold conditions.
  • Willing and able to work around dust, feathers, animals, and various cleaning chemicals.
  • Willing and able to climb stairs, work in confined spaces, and various floor surfaces.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associates Degree from an accredited college or technical school of training.
  • Minimum of 1 year in ammonia refrigeration experience.
  • RETA certification is a plus.
