EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The minimum Formal Education preferred to be considered for this position is (indicated level and years of education and, if a degree is required, the major):

 

  Finish High School or GED, Currently working or involved in Industrial Refrigeration               

Specialized or technical knowledge, credentials or licensing required for the position include:

 

  Tig Welding Fabrication, Controls 120v, 24v, 4-20Ma. CFC Licenses, any RETA training is a Plus. Knowledge of Steam boiler operations                                        

                                                                       

The minimum number of Years and/or Months of Prior and Related experience preferred to be considered for this position is:

 

Any ammonia experience is a plus and may be able to  support HAZMAT Team on call 24/7

     

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The overall purpose of this position, i.e., what it accomplishes at Perdue and/or why it exists is: 

 

To safely operate the ammonia refrigeration system and its related equipment by adhering to the plant Process Safety Management Program.  To diagnose system problems and make repairs.  To make the equipment repairs as generated from work orders.  Be able to perform supervisor’s duties when needed.

PRINCIPAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Describe below the major responsibilities of this position which must be fulfilled with or without reasonable accommodations in order to

achieve the essential purpose of this position.

1.  Must supply own hand tools necessary to operate system, perform preventive inspections and make repairs.  ( See attached list )

2.  Must be able to safely isolate and pump down any section of all systems.

3.  Must be able to do line opening procedures.

4.  Must be qualified to receive or transfer ammonia in all plant systems.

5.  Must be qualified to do routine maintenance on:

     A.  Ammonia compressors.

     B.  Air compressors.

     C.  Ammonia liquid pumps.

     D.  Ammonia system controls.

     E.  Refrigeration system condensers.

     F.  Air system drying equipment.

  1. Air system controls.
  2. Steam Boiler chemical testing & repair.
  3. Water filtration, chemical testing & repair.
  4. All water delivery in the plant.

6.  Must have clear understanding of refrigerant expansion with pressure temperature variables.

7.  Must be able to direct and train operators.

8.  Working knowledge of departmental PC’s.

9.  Must perform as a Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) team member after certification from Perdue.

DECISION-MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES

Describe the decision-making authority of this position, the nature and extent of supervision available and the point at which higher approval is required. 

Tasks are assigned daily; in addition, the associate is familiar with most control parameters and will be authorized to make adjustments on an individual basis commensurate with his / her demonstrated capabilities.

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

This position spends  0  % of a normal workweek supervising other Associates.

This position spends  0  % of a normal workweek training and developing other Associates.

This position spends  25  % of a normal workweek performing technical analyses and writing reports.

This position spends  75 % of a normal workweek in production or maintenance-related activities.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:

Must be able to pass a respiratory physical exam and work on and around anhydrous ammonia systems.  Must also be able to perform as a HAZMAT Response Team member while wearing Self-Containing Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA) and fully encapsulating suit when responding to an ammonia leak."Ability to work for 12 hours in a stationary position or travel on a wet, moist, dry, greasy, floors which may include medal or plastic grating surfaces with up to 4 hours in a single interval.  Ability to work from various types of ladders.  Exposure to and work in temperatures of less than -40 degrees and 75 degrees with ambient humidity, also will require from time to time working outside, on roof,during all seasons of the year and temperatures associated with the seasons.  Noise of 110 db, and light intensity range of 50 to 100 foot candles.  Bending, twisting, lifting, reaching, sitting, and grasping varies in repetitions, distance, degrees, angle, weight, heights, longest interval of time, objects grasped, and body positions depending upon the maintenance task required.  Exposure to chlorinated water ( 50 ppm, Amonia vapors ) 5 ppm, CO2,Nitrogen, caustic detergents, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, and other chemicals found in a poultry processing plant.  Must use and / or wear protective and safety equipment required for the job.
